Does Intermittent Fasting Work with Keto?

If you’re on the keto diet and not losing weight fast enough, or have stalled, consider incorporating Intermittent Fasting to get the scale moving again. Intermittent fasting is something that I love so I want to explain how much it can help you.

First, I want to clarify that Intermittent Fasting is NOT a diet. It’s actually an effective approach to health and wellness that produces incredible results!

What Is Intermittent Fasting?

Intermittent fasting is the practice of going extended periods of time without consuming any calories. It dictates when to eat, not what to eat.

Here’s an Example:

Imagine the “normal” way of eating every few hours is like powering your phone by solar energy. When the sun is out, your phone keeps a charge, but when night falls, your phone battery dies quickly because it’s not used to running without the sun.

Intermittent fasting is like your phone running on a lithium battery. It takes a few hours to charge but can perform for a full-day or more without having to be charged again. With Intermittent Fasting, you eat for a few hours throughout the day and the remaining hours are spent not eating, as your body has been trained to use calories and body fat more efficiently.

How does IF work?

Several methods of IF exist. The most common one is the 16/8 method. A 16/8 Intermittent Fasting protocol translates to 16 hours of fasting (not eating) and 8 hours of eating. (The 16/8 protocol is just one example. It’s possible to work your way up to a 20/4 fast and even longer.)

When you shorten your eating window, your body becomes trained to burn calories more efficiently, using stored liver glycogen as energy and tapping into your fat storage.

Intermittent Fasting is the epitome of the saying: “Work smarter, not harder.”
