Super Bowl Fun Facts

The Super Bowl is one of the biggest events of the year in the US. It’s known for football, but it’s also known for the commercials, half-time show, and the crazy food consumption.

Here are some interesting facts about the Big Game [1]:

  • Super Bowl Sunday is the second biggest eating day of the year in the US (behind Thanksgiving). Foods consumed include:
    • 120 million pounds of avocados (that’s a lot of guacamole!)
    • 1.25 billion chicken wings
    • 4 million pizzas
    • 50 million cases of beer
  • The tickets are very expensive! The lower end starts around $3,000 and they can go as high as $93,000. That’s more than the 2018 median household income in the US, which was $61,937 [2].
  • Commercials cost millions. A 30-second ad during the 2019 game cost a record $5.25 million [3]. In other words, every second of airtime cost $175,000. Companies are willing to pay that amount due to the high viewership of the game. Super Bowl LIII in 2019 brought in 100.7 million viewers across television, digital, and streaming [4].
Now, let’s get to the recipes that will boost the number of keto fans at your Super Bowl party.

Keto-Friendly Super Bowl Dip Recipes

Dips are always a hit at parties… and Super Bowl Sunday is one of the biggest days to dip and dunk to your heart’s content.

Dips are perfect for the ketogenic diet because dips need fat for texture and flavor.

Common dip ingredients include cream cheese, sour cream, and mayonnaise -- all high-fat keto-approved foods! Finding low-carb foods to dip into can be challenging since crackers and chips are full of carbs.

Your best options are low-carb veggies, like cucumbers, bell peppers, celery, and carrots. This helps you bump up your veggie intake without spiking your carbs.

Low-carb almond flour crackers are also an option. Our favorite keto dipping vessel? Cheese crisps! They are virtually carb-free with a savory crunch that perfectly complements creamy dips.

#1. Guacamole

keto super bowl recipes

Roughly 8 million pounds of guacamole is consumed on Super Bowl Sunday [5].

There are countless guacamole recipes out there, but this one gets a keto-friendly fat boost with the addition of olive oil. This pushes the fat macros to 80% with just 3g net carbs per serving. Keto Crisps + guacamole = amazing!

#2. Spinach Dip

This keto spinach dip is delicious at any temperature.

Serve it chilled, room temperature, or hot out of the oven… it’ll be a hit no matter what. It has a whopping 83% fat from cream cheese, mayonnaise, and Parmesan cheese. Plus, you get a nice boost of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants from the spinach.

#3: Buffalo Chicken Dip

This buffalo chicken dip has a little more protein than the others due to the chicken thighs.

It also gets a satiating dose of fat from cream cheese, sour cream, cheddar cheese, and Monterey Jack cheese. Plus, it has a spicy kick from hot sauce.

This dip is best-served piping hot with crisp cold veggies.

Keto Super Bowl Finger Food Recipes

You’ll most likely be eating your food while sitting on a couch or standing in front of the TV, so easy finger foods you can put on a small plate are ideal for Super Bowl parties.

#4. Jalapeño Poppers

You can’t go wrong with jalapeño poppers!

This keto version uses cream cheese and bacon, but feel free to substitute another choice of cheese if you’d like.

The oven makes the jalapeños deliciously charred, softens the cheese, and crisps up the bacon. Pop one into your mouth for a taste bud touchdown!

#5. Bacon Deviled Eggs

Here’s another keto recipe featuring bacon because bacon is awesome and makes everything better. Case in point -- deviled eggs.

In this version, you mix a little bacon fat into the egg yolk mixture along with mayo, dijon mustard, and some seasonings. Then you place crispy bacon pieces in the egg white halves before filling it. You’ll never make deviled eggs any other way again!

#6. Italian Meatballs

Meatballs are such a delicious comfort food. And they’re delicious with or without sauce.

This Italian Meatball recipe uses ground beef for a satiating boost of fat and replaces breadcrumbs with flaxseed meal, grated Parmesan, and shredded mozzarella to cut the carbs.

Keto Super Bowl Dessert Recipes

You can’t throw a party without desserts! And these easy keto desserts will satisfy everyone’s sweet tooth - keto or not.

#7. Mini Cheesecake Bites

keto super bowl dessert recipes

One of Tim’s all-time favorite desserts is keto cheesecake. These no-bake mini cheesecakes couldn’t be easier to make. They need to be frozen so it’s best to make them the day before the party. These keto cheesecakes are delicious whether frozen or thawed so pull them out of the freezer when your party starts, and they’ll be good to go for hours.

Each mini cheesecake is 88% fat and only 6% carbs (2.5g net carbs per serving).

Keto Tip: These also make perfect fat bombs so make a batch for yourself and grab one from the freezer whenever you need a fat macro boost.

You can also try Coconut Keto Cheesecake Bites.

#8. Chocolate Chip Cookies

This chocolate chip cookie recipe gets keto-fied with almond flour and erythritol

For those unfamiliar with it, erythritol is one of the top sugar-free natural sweeteners for keto. It’s derived from corn and is great for baking because it can be a 1:1 substitute for sugar.

Erythritol doesn’t have an unpleasant aftertaste like stevia does. You’ll recognize all the other ingredients: butter, eggs, vanilla extract, baking powder, baking soda, and, of course, chocolate!

#9. Fudgy Keto Brownies

Score major brownie points at your Super Bowl party with these keto fudge brownies.

With only 2g net carbs per serving, these gluten-free brownies will be a hit with all chocolate lovers, and won’t come with a carb crash later on. Give them an extra boost of fat with homemade whipped cream.

#10. KetoLogic Keto Indulge Chocolate

If you don’t have time to bake, or just aren’t much of a baker, set out a plate of Keto Indulge dark chocolates and call it a day!

These hazelnut butter-filled chocolates are the perfect size for serving at a party.

Enjoy Super Bowl Sunday and Stick to Keto with These Recipes

The ketogenic diet doesn't really allow for cheat days. But it can be hard not to over-indulge sometimes. If you do end up straying from keto on Super Bowl Sunday, drink a serving or two of BHB to boost your ketones. Exogenous ketones can help you get back into ketosis and minimize the lethargy from your carb crash.

Despite what you may think, it is possible to stay on track with your low-carb or keto lifestyle as you watch the Big Game. And this list of Tim’s favorite keto Super Bowl recipes is just another reason to #GoKetoWithTebow.
