Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m a runner at heart but due to childhood knee injuries, I was never able to complete long distances, which I preferred. In 2018 when I visited Verona, Italy, the Giulietta e Romeo Marathon was taking place. It was rainy, wet and cold, but looked like so much fun! I told my wife and best friend who were with me that I’m going to run that marathon one day. They didn’t take me seriously. When I returned home to Austin, TX, I had MPFL Reconstruction surgery to stabilize my knee, and 3 months later I ran my first 5k! In 2019 I pledged to run at least one 5k per month with a goal of running a sub 15 minute 5k. My knee is finally stable enough for me to run near 100%, but I definitely needed to reduce my weight to improve my PR. I’m currently at 27:26 for the 5k distance and I expect to improve that to a sub 20 minute time by the end of 2019. And by the looks of it, KetoLogic is going to be a huge part of that.
How did you hear about the keto diet?
My wife has been doing the keto diet since June 2018, and is the real expert on everything keto. I’ve been riding her coat tails when she goes to meetups and makes new keto friends. I found out about KetoLogic at Ketocon 2019 because she surprised me with a day pass.
Why did you decide to try the keto diet?
At Ketocon 2019 I was sampling everything because I didn’t really like most keto alternatives to the foods that I usually eat. While there, the only thing I found to be edible and not give me a weird side effect was the KetoLogic meal replacement. I forgot your representative’s name, but I’m sure he knew my face well. I kept circling his station to “sample” your goods. You may have saved my life that day.
What other diets have you tried? How does keto compare?
I’ve never really dieted. Keto has been very effective on changing my views on dieting though.
What was the most challenging aspect(s) of the keto diet?
The first 5 days were rough, as I still had non-keto food around the house, and I hate wasting food. The lack of sugar was tough also, but I quickly overcame this. Once the first 5 days were over, it was smooth sailing from there.
How did you overcome your top challenge(s)?
My wife, and bacon. I ate a lot of bacon in that first week, and then I found zero sugar Big Red at the grocery. My wife cooked all the meals during the challenge so I knew that I was in good hands. I don’t usually eat much due to my work day, but throughout the challenge I had 1 small meal for dinner along with the KetoLogic meal replacement shake at lunch. Never did breakfast.
Why did you decide to participate in the KETO 30 Challenge?
Your salted caramel meal replacement tasted great when I sampled it at Ketocon, and I knew it would be the easiest way for me to get into keto. I was right! I also signed up for my first half marathon in Virginia Beach, where I’ll be also running a 1 mile race and a 5k in 1 weekend! If there was ever a time for me to be at my lowest running weight, it would be now.
How did you feel while doing the KETO 30 Challenge?
I felt weak during the first 5 days. I wish I didn’t have to leave my bed, and contemplated taking a few days off work. After that short period, my energy was back and I forgot that I ever felt that way.
What was your favorite part about the KETO 30 Challenge?
Seeing the pounds fall off every day. I hate working without seeing results, and this challenge gave me results that I could see right away.
What was your least favorite part?
I wish I had more variety in meal replacement flavors. I had strawberry and chocolate from a small container I bought to mix it up a bit. I would have preferred salted caramel for 30 days instead.
What’s your favorite KetoLogic KetoMeal® flavor? Salted Caramel
What’s your favorite KetoLogic BHB flavor? Patriot Pop
What advice would you give to someone considering the keto diet and/or the KETO 30 Challenge?
Don’t let the first few days deter you. The rewards are going to be noticeable very quickly.
Any other final thoughts you’d like to share?
I’m really happy with the KetoLogic line of products and it was well worth the price! Thank you for making the introduction to keto easy!
