Tell us a little about yourself:

I live in Denver, NC (suburb of Charlotte), am married and the father of two high-energy boys, 13 and 11. I run a Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse as a General Manager, which is a demanding job with irregular and long hours. This can lead to poor diet choices when trying to squeeze meals into a very hectic and stressful day. I’m pretty active outside of work – I do CrossFit 3 to 5 days a week and usually maintain a decent level of fitness. In the past 6 months, however, my weight has creeped up and I started feeling tired and sluggish during the work day and during my workouts. I decided I needed to pay attention to my nutrition as the root cause of this trend and tried the ketogenic diet as a way to improve my health.

How did you hear about the keto diet?

My brother is a staunch follower and advocate of the keto lifestyle and he turned me onto ketogenic products and The Keto 30 challenge.

Why did you decide to try the keto diet?

I realize that how we look, feel, and are energized is primarily a result of what we decide to eat and intuitively, I knew that the high-carb diet I was consuming was the cause of the tired, heavy, and sleepless state I was experiencing. And reading about the keto lifestyle and the science behind fat-centric metabolic theory made a lot of sense so I decided I would give the 30-day challenge a go.

What other diets have you tried? How does keto compare?

You name it, I’ve tried it. Low-fat, low-carb, South Beach, Atkins, the Zone, etc. I lost weight on most of them, but was always hungry, especially on low-carb diets.

What was the most challenging aspect(s) of the keto diet?

Eating so much fat felt counterintuitive after so many years of hearing and reading how bad it is to eat high amounts of fat — 70% fat just did not compute at first.

How did you overcome your top challenge(s)?

I committed to the 30-day challenge and stuck to the plan.

Why did you decide to participate in The Keto 30 challenge?

The science made sense, the products were well reviewed with positive outcomes, and I wanted to try something completely different.

How did you feel while doing The Keto 30?

I started dropping weight immediately, but maintained strength and energy for grueling CrossFit WODs, maintained good energy levels throughout the day without mid-day slumps or crashes, and slept much better. In mere days, I went from feeling crappy from all the carbs I was eating to feeling lighter, more energized, and more present for the people in my life.

What was your favorite part about The Keto 30?

The recipes that KetoLogic provides on the website as support and trying lots of different foods to support the nutritional macros required. By the way, avocados are a wonder food!

What was your least favorite part?

Food planning, but it is key to success to any nutritional lifestyle change. Without disciplined food planning, hunger, temptation, and convenience win out and poor decisions take place.

What advice would you give to someone considering the keto diet and/or The Keto 30?

Change is hard and scary, but nothing ever worth doing is easy.
