Who says only children can enjoy a cold popsicle on a hot summer day?

No one, that's who. But if you're keto, you probably will need to get a little creative to have a popsicle and stick to your diet.

That's because store-bought popsicles have 10g of carbs and at least 7g of sugar in them [1].

Those numbers aren't insanely high, but since you can only eat 50g of net carbs per day, it's probably best not to spend those precious carbs on empty calories.

An easy solution? Try this Blackberry Yogurt BHB Popsicles recipe!

Instead of using sugar and artificial dyes, these ice pops are made with fresh fruit and lemon juice, a keto-friendly sweetener, and even one ingredient that helps promote ketosis.

They're also a great way to replace electrolytes like sodium and potassium as the heat creeps up during the summer months.

You're going to love these popsicles!

Ingredients You’ll Need

Healthy Ingredients InThis Recipe

What sets these popsicles apart from those you'll find in the freezer section? For starters, the many health benefits you'll receive. Check out what the main ingredients can offer you!
  • Fresh lemon juice is full of vitamin C and polyphenols, which is why studies show consuming lemon juice can help alleviate fatigue and improve your blood lipid levels [2].
  • KetoLogic Erythritol is a natural low-carb, zero-calorie sweetener. In fact, it's one of our favorite ways to sweeten foods on the keto diet. You get the same sweetness of regular popsicles without the guilt of deviating from your diet!
  • KetoLogic Keto BHB is a delicious way to add exogenous ketones to your daily regimen. Exogenous ketones can help you enter ketosis faster, and can help "offset" the effects of one or two higher-carb meals to get you back on track. They're also packed with electrolytes, which are important to replace during the hot summer months.
  • Plain Greek Yogurt is loaded with protein, healthy fats, and probiotics, which help keep the millions of bacteria in your gut healthy and happy for optimal digestive health [3]!

The main ingredient in this recipe we want to focus on, though, is the small (but mighty) blackberry.

Ingredient Spotlight: Blackberries

Pound for pound, there isn't a type of fruit better for the keto diet than blackberries. Peak blackberry season is July to August, so load up while you can!

Health Benefits

One cup of fresh blackberries [4]
  • Has 7.6g of fiber, which is more than 30% of your daily requirements
  • Contains vitamins A, C, E, and K, along with a bunch of B vitamins (which help keep you energized)
  • Contains 9 essential minerals, such as copper, manganese, and potassium (the latter of which is great for replacing electrolytes on a hot summer day!)

But before you go out looking for blackberries, make sure you know what you're looking for.

How to Select Fresh Blackberries

When selecting fresh blackberries at the supermarket, keep these tips in mind:
  • Color: Look for berries that are dark purple to black. Avoid discolored berries or those with light spots.
  • Feel: The softer the fruit is, the riper it is. Grocery stores will put them out at various stages of ripeness, so don't be afraid to open the package and see where they are.
  • Dryness: Any stains on the tissue at the bottom of the package or wetness is a sign of too-ripe berries. Best to find a different package.
Be sure to give the fruit a good rinse before you eat it at home. Take it out of the container and gently wash under cold water, then pat down with paper towels!
