How to Enjoy Alcohol on Keto
Drinking alcohol is generally frowned upon on the ketogenic diet. But that doesn’t mean you have to give it up entirely in order to stay on track. If you want to drink alcohol from time to time, here are some things to keep in mind.
1. Sip on Dry Wines
Remember this: the dryer the wine, the more keto-friendly it is. Unsurprisingly, sweeter wines have more carbs, because they have more sugars. Some low-carb white wine options include champagne and Sauvignon Blanc. Generally, red wines are more keto-friendly than whites.
2. Opt for Lower-Carb Beers
Out of all of your alcoholic options, beer is the worst one on a low-carb diet. It’s packed with carbs so a single beer can knock you out of ketosis. But if you really want one, there are some lower-carb options that you may be able to enjoy if you watch your carb intake for the rest of the day. Beers with lower carbs include Budweiser Select 55 and Miller Genuine Draft 64.
3. Stick to Clear and Unflavored Liquors
Vodka, tequila, and whiskey all have zero carbs on their own. It’s when you start adding mixers and juice that the carbs start skyrocketing. When making mixed drinks, use sugar-free mixers or carbonated water.
Another great option is to mix it with water and KetoLogic BHB. It adds flavor to your drink without any sugar or carbs, plus you get a boost of ketones and electrolytes. Try a Keto Margarita!
4. Reduce the Amount You Drink
Your alcohol tolerance goes down when you’re eating low-carb. This means you’ll likely feel the effects of alcohol faster i.e., you’ll get drunk more easily. So pay attention to how you’re feeling. And it’s always better to drink on a full stomach.
5. Hydrate
Drink a full glass of water after each alcoholic drink. Alcohol is dehydrating so drinking water in between not only helps rehydrate you, but it also keeps you fuller so you’re more likely to drink less.
Water will also help prevent a hangover the next day.

This Keto BHB Wine Spritzer Recipe Is:
- A refreshing and delicious low-carb keto cocktail that everyone - even carb-lovers - will enjoy!
- Easy to make with just a few simple ingredients, most of which you probably already have in your kitchen.
- A great source of electrolytes and ketones, which supports a low-carb and ketogenic diet.
Four Health Benefits of this Recipe
1. Supports Ketosis
The BHB in this recipe enhances ketones in your body, which in turn, supports ketosis.
Achieving and maintaining ketosis is critical on the keto diet because that’s when your body is using fat for energy i.e., you’re in fat-burning mode.
Keto Tip: Whenever you over-indulge on carbs, drink an extra serving or two of BHB to help you get back into ketosis.
2. Replenishes Electrolytes
Alcohol is dehydrating so it can add an extra punch to those on a low-carb diet because eating limited carbs already means you’re losing electrolytes through excess urination. That’s why replenishing electrolytes is so important… and having them right in the cocktail is an added bonus!
If you want, you can boost electrolytes even more by adding in a scoop or two of Keto Electrolytes. You’ll probably want them on hand for the next morning if you overindulge anyway!
3. Boosts Antioxidants
Berries are an excellent source of antioxidants, which protect your cells and may reduce your risk for disease [1].
Antioxidants, such as anthocyanins, ellagic acid, and resveratrol, have been shown to protect cells from free radical damage [2].
4. Supports Reduction in Inflammation
Berries have anti-inflammatory properties, meaning they can help your body fight infection or injury. Chronic inflammation is linked to certain diseases, such as diabetes and obesity [3].
Studies have shown consuming berries can help lower inflammatory markers [4]. In short, adding berries to your diet may help inflammation, thereby reducing your risk of heart disease, diabetes, and other health issues.
